Women's Health Q & A

What Exactly is Women’s Health?

The field of women’s health includes the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions that are unique to women. It involves preventive services such as PAP smears and breast exams. Women’s health care also includes annual well-woman exams and care for women as they age from adolescence, through adulthood and menopause.

Who Offers Women’s Health Services?

Any licensed medical doctor can offer women’s health services, but some doctors, like Dr. Golshan,  take a special interest in women’s health issues. Usually, women go to one of the following providers to get the screenings and treatments they need:

  • a gynecologist, who specializes exclusively in women’s health issues
  • an internist, who specializes in treating adults
  • a family practice doctor, who provides care for both children and adults

When necessary, an emergency doctor will provide care that women need immediately.

Who Should Go to a Women’s Health Provider?

Every woman who has gone through puberty should see a women’s health provider. Women who have a question or issue with their reproductive system should, of course, seek treatment. Even healthy women, however, should make an appointment with a provider as a preventative measure.

What Should Women Look for in a Women’s Health Provider?

When choosing a provider to see for women’s health issues, women in Rialto and San Bernardino should look for a doctor who is licensed in California and board-certified like Dr. Golshan. Licensure lets a doctor legally practice medicine, and board certification shows that they have passed a rigorous exam in their particular area of medicine. Many women prefer to see a female doctor who meets these criteria.

Additionally, women ought to look for a provider who offers women’s health services at an office located close in physical distance for patient convenience. Women should go to their provider for regular screenings. Going to a nearby provider makes getting to and from appointments quick, which can make it easier to schedule appointments around other activities.
